The Springs Community is staffed twenty-four hours a day every day of the year and has both wake and sleep available during the night.

asperger's treatmentAll residents have their own key-workers who are selected on the basis of mutual compatibility and who take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the resident's personal programme.

Staff to resident ratios are maintained at a high level and it is possible should circumstances demand, for individual residents to have dedicated 1:1 staffing throughout the day. All staff attend mandatory training courses in the following core areas:

  • Fire Awareness
  • Manual Handling
  • Infection Control
  • Child and Adult Protection
  • Challenging Behaviour
  • Care of Medicines
  • Asperger's Syndrome, autism and associated conditions


Staff have their own individual development plans which identify other training priorities relevant to their own individual and organisational needs; these could include areas such as the sexuality and personal relationships of people with Asperger's Syndrome, Makaton and bereavement awareness.

The Springs Community also employs the services of tutors who provide specialised educational, training, and recreational services as needed.

Staff meetings and senior staff meetings take place in a regular cycle and in addition there are regular residents meetings which both staff and residents attend.
