Care Plans
All residents have an individual care plan and programme, the nature and management of which are crucial to their life experience. These are only drawn up after consultation with the individual and their appropriate supporters eg: family, social workers, care managers and other professionals.
All care plans are reviewed on a regular basis internally and externally. They provide an opportunity to assess progress, determine emergent needs and modify the programme accordingly.
All programmes address specific needs, particularly the ‘triad of impairments’ (social interaction, communication and understanding) however they will be as varied as the people for whom they are designed. For some residents, the ‘structured day’ approach is greatly beneficial while for others it can become the source of increased anxiety and distress. Some residents take readily to links into outside educational courses and activities while others prefer a very more gradual introduction to them.
It is important that programmes and services are not ‘administered’ to individuals to suit organisational needs or behavioural theories. They should evolve and be shaped to suit the unique needs of each individual. Our residents are never pressurised into activities or schedules simply for the sake of being kept busy.
There is a large range of opportunities, challenges, and activities on offer and others can readily be developed to suit individual needs. However, their impact upon the life and development of the individual will be minimal and even counter-productive, unless the individual is ready to establish a relationship with them.
